AllTogetherDifferent5YenYauChairoftheENYANNationalSteeringGroup.TheyouththeatresectorhasbeenneglectedasanareaofresearchanddevelopmentthoughrecentArtsCouncilstudieshavereversedthistrend.Itisimportanttoacknowledgeherethewidercontextofrecentpolicy-makingwhichhasencouragedarootandbranchreviewofyouthartspracticeandledtothisToolkitandEvaluationreport.RecentinitiativesledbytheEnglishNationalYouthArtsNetworkENYANforexampleacknowledgethepriorityplacedbyGovernmentonserviceprovisionforyoungpeopleEveryChildMattersAimingHighetc.andemphasisetheroleofcollaborationinrelationtoconsultingwithyoungpeopletoensuretheyenjoyequalopportunitiesinthenewyouthofferpresentedtothemTheartsusingtheinherentcreativitythatpervadesourworkhaveapowerfulparttoplay.Thereisanopportunitytosharebestpracticebetweentheartformsandthentodisseminateandsharethisknowledgeagainwiththoseworkingatthecoal-facewithyoungpeopletoelicittheirparticipationtoshapetheprovisionoftheactivitiesandtheservicestheywanttohavemadeavailabletothem.TheprogrammethoughalignedwiththisbroadobjectiveofincreasingconsultationandparticipationwithyoungpeopletakesaparticularfocustheprocessesoforganisationalplanningandcollaborationthatinformsharedprogrammesofparticipatoryyouththeatreworkTheprogrammewasalsoalignedwithndingsoftheArtsCouncilreport2006whichmappedYouthTheatreprovisionintheUKandincludedthefollowingrecommendationsThequalityofyouthandparticipatorytheatreprovisionvariesconsiderablyandasustainedprogrammeofsupportanddevelopmentisrequiredtostrengthenanddevelopthesector.Youthandparticipatorytheatreprovidesyoungpeoplewithopportunitiestoexpressthemselvesandmaketheirviewsknown.Itgivesnewcondenceandtransferableskillswhichimpactontheirlivesandsupportinformallearning.Thereisademandformoreopportunitiestoshareandexchangeworkatregionalandlocallevels.PavingTheWay
