‘It’s been a really positive day –it feels good to be positive and not be judged for what I am lacking or not good at!’ Joseph , 13
Our projects enable young people to realise their own personal, social and leadership skills, grow in confidence and build self-esteem and resilience. We encourage people to be aspirational about themselves. We support them to exceed their own expectations. We do this by making sure that there are opportunities for young people to enjoy small victories, so that they come to understand what success feel like.
Our experienced professional artists use their talents to inspire and transform the lives of young people. Creating memorable experiences can have a life changing effect. Our first question is 'how can we inspire this young person?'
OYAP works in partnership with Oxfordshire communities and local organisations to meet the needs of young people. Our creative projects strengthen communities and bring people of all ages together.
'The Arts Award has been an invaluable experience for the young people involved. They have learned leadership skills and autonomy, grown in confidence, and discovered what they are good at.’
Jo Dowden, Bretch Hill Community Centre
OYAP is a Training Agency and lead information, advice and guidance agency for the Arts Award in the South East. The Arts Award is a national qualification which supports young people to develop as artists and arts leaders.
‘Becca started out as one of OYAP’s young leaders, she is now project managing other young people so successfully which makes clear the sustainability of progression with the OYAP approach.’
Jennie Fordham – Heritage Lottery Fund Board member
We support young artists through training, mentoring and real project experience. We provide the skills that the next generation of artists need to be an inspiration to their peers and a catalyst for change in their community.
'By doing a project such as ‘Pimp my Bike’ we were able to reach out to different age groups in a fun and interactive way...by working with community partners we got them to target our residents and bring them along to a free event in the outdoors, participating in a fun project'.
'The project made him realise what he wanted to do with his life - before he didn't want to do anything. Life is changing for him now; he has more confidence to make changes in his life now. Thank you!'
Since becoming an independent charity in 2005 OYAP Trust’s artists and volunteers have worked with over twenty thousand young people in Oxfordshire. We strive to give all people, especially those most isolated, vulnerable and at risk, the opportunity to learn and develop confidence and skills through irresistible creative projects. OYAP previously stood for Oxfordshire Youth Arts Partnership, in case you were wondering, but now we're simply known as OYAP Trust!
