Stepping Up: The Next Creative Generation is an intensive course of training, learning, mentoring, project development and leadership for 18-25 year olds who are looking to start their creative career. By investing in the talents, skills and creativity of young and emerging artists, young people and cultural organisations will engage fully in participatory arts, which will help open up the arts to young people across Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes.

With the support of Arts Council England we will be delivering Stepping Up: The Next Creative Generation in Oxfordshire and Milton Keynes each year until 2016. 60 emerging artists and project managers will participate in the programme over the next three years, enabling them to gain the skills, experience and support they need to kick start their creative careers.

“The mentoring has been one of the stand out parts of the course for me.  My mentor has provided incredible support with all aspects of the course but most significantly for me she has kept me focussed on my real long term goal of establishing myself as a professional artist and developing my practice.”

One of the most valuable elements of the programme is the opportunity to be mentored by an experienced professional from the creative and cultural sector. Mentoring not only delivers enhanced skills through supportive relationships but also encourages self-directed learning and models behaviours that encourage growth in others.

Stepping Up includes:

•10 days of core training covering: workshop facilitation, project management, fundraising, working with at risk young people, marketing and self-promotion, social enterprise and self-employment

• Placement/ internship/ Work experience

•12 hours of contact time with a professional and experienced mentor

•The opportunity to do the Gold or Silver Arts Award

•Support to develop and deliver a community or participatory arts project

•Opportunities for networking with and access to the resources of arts organisations in Milton Keynes and Oxfordshire

•Inspirational visits to cultural organisations and talks from professionals from the creative industries

•Arts Award adviser training
